NOTE: In the body of the Standard where safety glazing material is mentioned the intended and meaning is that it is transparent safety glazing material.

Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to prescribe the functional properties of transparent safety glazing materials in such manner that they can be used in any place in buildings for which they possess those mechanical, or functional properties. Or both which are requisite and appropriate. This standard is designed to serve two purpose: 1) to afford a basis for standards for adoption in regulations by federal, state, and local regulatory bodies and 2) for use by building officials or others as reference standards.
