Standard Method of Test for FLAMMABILITY OF SELF-SUPPORTING PLASTICS
|Publication Date:||9 September 1968|
This method covers a. procedure for determining the relative flammability of self-supporting plastics in the form of sheets, bars, plates or panels.
NOTE-For this method, "Self-Supporting Plastics" are defined as those plastics which, when Mounted with the clamp end three-eighths (3/4) of an inch above the horizontal screen, do not sag initially so that the end touches the screen. For tests of flexible plastics in the form of thin sheets and films, reference should be made to the Method of Test for Flammability of Flexible Plastics (ASTM Designation: D 568).2 Plastic foams and sheeting are referenced in Method of Test for Flammability of Plastic Foams and Sheeting (ASTM Designation: D 1682).2 Method of Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials (ASTM Designation E 84)E is utilized to evaluate plastics when applied or fastened to the surfaces of walls or cellings as an interior finish. Flammability tests on sheets and plate insulation are covered in the Methods of Testing Rigid Sheet and Plate Materials Used for Electrical Insulation (ASTM Designation: D 229).2
