Standard Method for ANALYSIS OF POLYCHLORINATED BIPHENYLS IN MINERAL INSULATING OILS BY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY
|Publication Date:||23 March 1982|

This method describes a quantitative determination of the concentration of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in electrical insulating mineral oils by gas chromatography. It applies to the determination of PCB species present in mixtures known as askarels, used themselves as electrical insulating liquids.
The askarels containing PCB, which were manufactured in and were used as electrical insulating liquids in the United States, are known as Aroclors.2 This method can be applied to the determination of PCB in insulating oils contaminated by either individual Aroclors or mixtures of Arclors. The technique may not be applicable to the determination of PCB from other sources of contamination.
