This specification covers requirements for enclosures that house electric and electronic equipment for Naval shipboard use. Details concerning construction, ventilation, cooling, and mechanical protection are included in this specification. This specification also covers that class of explosion proof equipment which will contain any spark or ignition within the enclosure and not permit ignition in the surrounding external atmosphere as a result of normal operation or failure of electrical circuits within the enclosure. This specification is not intended to cover enclosures which form an integral part of equipment such as batteries.
