PURPOSE
This Marshall Work Instruction (MWI) establishes minimum requirements for the inspection and certification of Pressure Vessels and Systems (PVS) for MSFC programs/projects in accordance with the requirements of NASA Policy Directive (NPD) 8710.5, NASA Safety Policy for Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems, and NASA-STD-8719.17, NASA Requirements for Ground- Based Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems.
APPLICABILITY
This MWI applies to Center personnel, programs, projects, and activities, including contractors and resident agencies to the extent specified in their respective contracts or agreements. ("Contractors," for purposes of this paragraph, include contractors, grantees, Cooperative Agreement recipients, Space Act Agreement partners, or other agreement parties.)
This MWI applies to the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF).
This MWI applies to the Assembly/Refurbish Facility (ARF) located at the Kennedy Space Center.
Existing PVS Certification Programs at MAF and ARF may be used in lieu of this MWI if approved by the MSFC Pressure Systems Manager (PSM).
This MWI applies to ground-based PVS, code and non-code pressure vessels (including vacuum vessels and boilers) that are MSFC-owned or operated, temporary or permanent, and non- MSFC-owned contractor or tenant-operated PVS on MSFC property if those PVS are determined to pose a risk to MSFC personnel, facilities, or equipment.
