What this book is for
The purpose of this book is to allow the safe separation of incompatible trains. It applies where normal train operation as set out in Rule Books 1 to 21 cannot be used due to signalling incompatibility. This book also sets out the controls that must be in place for train operations where:
- a new signalling system is being used to control train movements with the legacy system isolated
- a new signalling system is commissioned but new functionality is being applied via software updates. This may result in either the train or the signalling system integrity being reduced and additional controls being required
- an engineers train passes over a commissioned signalling system for which its protection system is not compatible.
