scope:
The aim of this standard is to improve the estimation of patient dosimetry after therapeutic administration of a radiopharmaceutical (Council Directive 97/43/Euratom1).
Gammacamera is an imaging instrument used by nuclear medicine physicians in diagnostic procedures. The usual gammacamera is equipped with a 3/8" INa(Tl) scintillation detector. This part of ISO 16644 is suitable to rapidly assess the activity of radionuclides uptake by the patient for large uptake (Hiperthyroidism) or for small uptakes (treatment after ablation in Cancer disease).
In order to estimate accumulated activity, the procedure can be repeated to obtain activity-time curve or can be also used in connection with external dose rate measurements (ISO 18310).
1 for all medical exposure of individuals for radiotherapeutic purposes, ... exposures of target volumes shall be individuall y planned; taking into account that doses of non-target volumes and tissues shall be as low as reasonably achievable and consistent with the intended radiotherapeutic purpose of the exposure
