NATO - STANAG 4455

STANDARDIZATION OF VME BUS FOR USE IN TACTICAL LAND VEHICLES

active, Most Current
Organization: NATO
Publication Date: 16 March 2011
Status: active
Page Count: 6
scope:

AIM

The aim of the agreement is to standardize on an already developed and accepted commercial standard microprocessor backplane bus for the following reasons:

a) to provide a common bus architecture that will support computing-intensive functions within a vehicle electronics (Vetronics) system;

b) to provide a wide procurement base for future systems supported by the provision of commercial produced hardware during the development stage;

c) to allow for the procurement of future systems supported by a defined and already accepted microprocessor bus together with its support environment (in an attempt to reduce procurement time);

d) to facilitate a higher degree of component commonality thus reducing costs (large user base) whilst increasing component interchangeability;

e) machine-based constraints such as addressing modes, word lengths, support software, languages will be obviated to some degree when considering interoperability.
