(This foreword is not a part of American National Standard Graphic Symbols for Railroad Maps and Profiles Y32.7-1972)

This standard supersedes American National Standard Graphical Symbols for Use on Railroad Maps and Profiles, Y32.7-1957. It represents a compilation and correlation of graphic symbols used by the Engineering Division and the Communications and Signal Section of Association of American Railroads. Following approval by Subcommittee 7 and Standards Committee Y32, it was granted approval by the American National Standards Institute on August 8, 1972.
