This Standard specifies an apparatus and the procedure for the disintegration of chemical pulps. This apparatus and procedure are required for preparation of the test portion in a number of other standards dealing with pulps.

In principle, this method is applicable to all kinds of chemical pulps, including recovered fibres. It is not suitable for mechanical pulps and some very long-fibred chemical pulps such as those from cotton and similar materials.

NOTE 1 The disintegration of mechanical pulps, semi-chemical pulps and pulp of chimi-mechanical pulps I specified in JIS P 8220-2 and ISO 5263-3.

NOTE 2 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 5263-1 : 2004 Pulps - Laboratory wet disintegration - Part 1 : Disintegration of chemical pulps (MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.
