This NES specifies the requirements for the periodic inspection, testing and maintenance of Naval Standard Hydraulic Accumulator Shells.

It is applicable to the following range of accumulators currently in use in the hydraulic systems of surface ships and submarines:

Chromium-molybdenum steel and duplex stainless steel bladder type accumulators of metric capacities (4,10,20a nd 37 litre) with a working pressure of 207 bar g.

Nickel-plated carbon steel piston type accumulators of metric capacity (98 litre) with a working pressure of 207 bar g.

Carbon steel piston type accumulators of imperial capacities (2,2.5, 3 & 6 ft³) with a working pressure of 175 bar g.

This NES does not cover the inspection, testing and maintenance of the accumulator fittings and internals (as defined in ANNEX B), the requirements for which are specified in BR 2000(53)2.
