This Standard specifies telecommunications infrastructure requirements for educational facilities. It specifies cabling, cabling topologies, and cabling distances - all of which are intended to support a wide range of services and systems. Additionally, pathways and spaces (e.g., sizing and location), and ancillary requirements are addressed. Telecommunications in educational buildings requires a robust infrastructure design to support the numerous systems that rely on the electronic transport of information. The purpose of this standard is to enable designers to incorporate these relevant telecommunications transport mechanisms within the design of educational buildings and spaces. It is intended to enable the planning of a structured cabling system that can be used with a multitude of services and systems in educational buildings and spaces.
