scope:

This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the requirements of performance (including safety) and marking for cells and battery systems of secondary lithium cells and batteries (hereafter referred to as "cells" and "battery systems", respectively) for use in industrial applications (hereafter simply referred to as "batteries").

Applications of secondary lithium cells and batteries are roughly classified into a stationary application, a mobile application and a potable application.

This Standard is applicable to the secondary lithium cells and batteries for stationary application and mobile application for industrial use. Practical examples for main applications are as follows.

a) Stationary application Telecom, uninterruptible power system (UPS), emergency power system, power storage system and applications similar to these.

b) Mobile application Forklift, golf cart, automatic guided vehicle (AGV) , railroad, marine vessel, etc., except road vehicle.

When JIS or IEC Standard of batteries intended to specific application exists, priority is given to the standard for the specific application. For example, IEC 62660 series, etc. are intended to the cells for electric road vehicles.

NOTE: Performances of lithium secondary batteries for portable applications are specified in JIS C 8711.
