Overview: VAP Guidance

As outlined in the previous section, all of LU‟s HSE requirements are embedded within PMF products. It therefore makes sense to align HSQE‟s verification activities with the PMF structure as much as possible. In the PMF world, all of HSQE‟s verification activities fall into one of two categories, both of which should be represented in each VAP:-

a) Quality checks on PMF products,

b) Product production & implementation checks.

VAPs, by their very nature, cannot be generic; the exact form and content of Verification Activities needs to meet the requirements and circumstances of each individual project. As such, the VAP Guidance Spreadsheet associated with this document does not provide a generic list of Verification Activities to be conducted by all SQEAs across the Projects & Upgrades area but represents an interactive tool intended to help SQEAs put together individual VAPs suited to each of their projects/programmes. Having said this, a degree of standardisation in HSQE‟s approach to assurance is nevertheless desirable. An appropriate level of consistency in HSQE VAPs will be achieved by the introduction of the VAP Guidance Spreadsheet: the guidance prompts all SQEAs to check the same things and ask the same questions; questions which are designed to check compliance with HSE standards and legislation and are directly linked PMF products.
