scope:
A short-term international assignment is an opportunity for TfL employees to gain experience and skills outside the UK and to develop an international perspective, whilst at the same time enabling TfL to undertake projects on a global basis.
The rationale for sending someone on assignment will normally be to fulfil a specific business need, but may also be for personal development purposes, or a combination of the two.
A short-term international assignment will normally be for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months. If the assignee wishes to extend this period, and it is agreed that they remain in the location beyond this period, then the terms of the assignment will be changed appropriately.
A short-term assignment will usually be on an unaccompanied basis.
These guidelines will apply where TfL requests the transfer of an employee to meet a specific resourcing or business need.
Individual assignment letters and local guidance notes will be issued by local management to define any procedural details that are specific to the host location.
