Organization: AF
Publication Date: 12 February 1987
Status: active
Page Count: 49
scope:

This standard tells how to prevent harmful exposures of personnel to electromagnetic energy emitted at frequencies from 10 kilohertz (kHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz) and what to do if persons are, or believe they have been, accidentally overexposed to RF radiation. Radiation in the frequency range covered by this standard originates from communication s and radar systems as well as commercial, industrial, and medical devices. This standard gives permissible exposure limits (PELs) of RF radiation to which it is belived individuals may be continuously exposed without being harmed. (These limits do not apply to the intentional exposure of individuals during medical diagnostic or therapeutic procedures). This standard does not tell how to identify or control potential hazards resulting from RF-induced ignition of electro explosive/devices (EEDs) or petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL). Questions about these topics should be referred to: ASD/ENACA, Wright-Patterson AFB OH 45433, and 1842 EEG/EEITE, Scott AFB IL 62225, respectively.
