Object and Scope
The scheme is intended to establish a common code to assist in the identification of materials conveyed in piping systems and is intended to form an acceptable basis for a universal scheme. The use of this standard will promote greater safety and will lessen the chances of error, confusion or inaction.
This scheme concerns only the identification of piping systems in industrial and power plants. It does not cover pipes buried in the ground or electrical conduits.
