Preface
Today, public policy dictates that our efforts and resources be utilized for national defense. To further thts policy; the sectional committee has issued in place of a 1941 edition) this special pamphlet which includes errata, interpretations, and a few revisions, all tending toward greater safety with a minimum expenditure of man-hours and materials. The 1937 edition of the mode, as amended by this supplement, takes the place of the proposed 1941 edition.
The committee has alreax made progress toward a revised and more clearly worded edttton of the code and has also prepared drafts of recommendations on existing installations, operation and maintenance: procedure, and other associated subjects. There remams, however, ntuch work to be done before this material is ready for final approval and adoption; The committee will continue to give interpretations and will proceed with its other activities so that a fully revised and simplified code will be available after the national emergency has passed.
The changes made in the code by the promulgation of this supplement have not, as yet, been incorporated in the American Recommended Practice for the Inspection of Elevators (Inspectors' Manual). A supplement to that public covering such items is now in preparation.
