INTRODUCTION
This appendix has been prepared to facilitate the calculation and correction of turbine test results by furnishing numerical examples of the procedures outlined in the Test Code for Steam Turbines. (PTC 6-1964). The feedwater heating cycles and gland leak-off systems have been simplified in order to demonstrate the basic principles involved without unnecessarily long or repetitive calculations. To illustrate the correction methods, the examples assume that the operating conditions during the test deviated from the specified conditions. The assumptions regarding turbine performance and the numerical values of corrections are hypo the tical and should not be considered to be applicable to any particular unit.
Reference should be made to the ASME publications on flow measurement* for instructions and basic data on determination of flow by means of orifices, nozzles and Venturi tubes. Information and tables required for the correction of barometer and manometer readings will be found in Part 2 on Pressure Measurement of the ASME Power Test Code Supplement on Instruments and Apparatus. These subjects have not been covered in this appendix since any information given here could be only an incomplete repetition of that available in the original code or publication.
The Test Code for Steam Turbines (PTC 6-1964) is the basic reference for this Appendix, and will be termed the "Code" in further references herein.
