ASME PVHO-1
SAFETY STANDARD FOR PRESSURE VESSELS FOR HUMAN OCCUPANCY
Organization: | ASME |
Publication Date: | 15 October 1977 |
Status: | inactive |
Page Count: | 99 |
scope:
This Standard provides minimum requirements for the design, fabrication, inspection, testing and stamping of pressure vessels for human occupancy, hereafter called Chambers. This does not include nuclear reactor containments. The rules are Intended to supplement the provisions of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, hereafter referred to as the Code.
This Standard Includes requirements that have been expanded to cover features peculiar to chambers. The design rules cover the pressure boundary and include supports and lifting attachments since handling loads and shocks present a severe source of stress. Material properties, particularly toughness and mechanical properties, are considered in more detail; and fabrication, testing, and inspection requirements are somewhat more stringent. A number of special features are included, such as view ports, a necessity with chambers and In-service use of pressure relief devices.
The chambers are to be designed, fabricated, inspected, tested and stamped in accordance with the requirements of either Section VIII, Division 1 or Division 2 of the Code. The supplemental requirements of this Standard are also to be met, and this shall be documented in the manner provided for in Section 5 of this Standard.
