This method of test is intended for use in estimating the rel:ltive ability of rubber or synthetic elastomer compounds used for automotive parts to withstand weathering conditions. Procedures are given for preparing triangular crosssection sPecimens, for mounting them in strained condition around specified mandrels, and for rating the effect of exposure as evidenced by the appearance of minute surface cracks. The type, time, temperature a.nd other conditions of exposure are not given, but shall be agreed upon by the purchaser and the seller and shall be completely described in the test reports

NOTE-This test method is not applicable to materials ordinarily cla.ssed as hard rubber, but is adaptable to molded or estruded soft rubber materials and sponge rubber for use in window weather·stripping and similar &utomotive a.ppli· cations.
