Object and scope
The object of this chapter is:
- to lay down the principles enabling guarantees to be given relating to her influence of cavitation on the performance characteristics and essentially on efficiency (Sub-clause III.22.1) of hydraulic turbines under specified running conditions. The checking of such guarantees shall be possible by means of model tests;
- to describe the methods and procedures of cavitation model tests;
- to define the methods of interpretation for cavitation model tests and the procedure for their final comparison with guarantees.
The chapter applies generally to all hydraulic turbines of the reaction type on which cavitation model tests are to be carried out.
Whilst primarily the scope of cavitation tests here described will be the verification of certain performance guarantees, it is recommended that the same principles and methods be applied for comparative tests and research tests.
Problems of behavior and stability even when these are that result of cavitation effects are excluded form this chapter. They cannot in effect, be treated validly with the condition of similitude taken into consideration in this chapter.
