PURPOSE. Pursuant to the authority of the Secretary of Defense under reference (a) and in accordance with reference (b), this Directive:
Designates the Director, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) as the DoD Executive Agent (DoD EA) for Medical Materiel for the Department of Defense.
Identifies the responsibilities, functions, and authorities of the DoD EA for Medical Materiel and the relationship of the DoD EA for Medical Materiel to the other DoD Components worldwide, in peacetime, wartime, for homeland defense, and other contingencies.
APPLICABILITY. This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all the organizational entities in the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the "DoD Components"). The term "Military Services," as used herein, refers to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Marine Corps.
