scope:
This Standard applies to anaesthesia ventilators that function through a direct connection to the airway of a patient.
This Standard includes requirements for the construction of anaesthesia ventilator equipment, for disclosure of its operating characteristics, for its marking, and for test procedures by which conformity to the requirements herein may be ensured.
This Standard does not include specific requirements for anaesthesia ventilator equipment that is intended to deliver breathing mixtures containing flammable anaesthetics.
Notes:
(1) In order to minimize the fire and explosion hazards attendant on the use of flammable anaesthetics, machines equipped to deliver such agents should meet the appropriate requirements of CSA Standard Z32.1.
(2) Values shown in brackets are to be considered as approximate conversions.
This Standard addresses ventilators intended for anaesthesia applications for patient groups to be specified by the manufacturer as-neonatal, paediatric, and/or adult. (See Clause 5(a).)
Note: This Standard includes components necessary to assemble ventilator systems such as those illustrated in Figure 1. Specific requirements for these components_ are made with reference to related Standards and are therefore evaluated under separate Certification programs.
