Organization: NPFC
Publication Date: 22 March 1991
Status: active
Page Count: 36
scope:

This specification covers the general requirements, operating conditions, and tests for linear movement, multipole, multiposition switch assemblies for manual and remote operation. Switch assemblies are for use in low level circuits and for power circuits and for power circuits up to a maximum of 10 amperes (see 6.1).

The type designation shall be of the following form, and as specified (see 3.1 and 6.2): Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which may be of use in improving this document should be addressed to: Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, SEA 55Z3, Department of the Navy, Washington, DC 20362-5101 by using the self-addressed Standardization Document Improvement Proposal (DD Form 1426) appearing at. the end of this document or by letter.

Switch operation shall be designated by a single letter as follows:

M Manual operation only R Remote operation with manual override.

Configuration of contacts on the movable contact plate shall be designated by a single digit as follows and shall be as shown on figure 1:

Configuration 2 Switch action: 1, 2, off or 1, off 2 Configuration 3 Switch action: 1, 2, 3, -N, off ("N" is the number of active positions) Configuration 4 Switch action: off, 1, 1 and 2, 2 Configuration 4-A Switch action: 1, off, 2, 1 and 2, 1 Configuration 5 Switch action: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, off.

A letter following the basic switch style shall be used to show a contact variation for that basic switch (see 3.1).

Switch style shall be designated by the letters LS, BLS, CLS, and so forth, indicating the basic switch style (see 3.1).

A letter following the basic switch style shah be used to show a switch variation for that basic switch (see 3.1).

Number of additional 2-circuit fuseholders required for the protection of connected load circuits shall be designated by the number specified in the applicable specification sheet (see 6.2). When no additional fuseholders are required the number 0 shall be used. Fuseholders required in control circuits of remote operated switch assemblies specified in the applicable specification sheet shall not be designated as additional fuseholders. When the switch style has no provisions for mounting fuseholders, this designator shall be omitted from the type designated.

When required, wiring modules for enclosed switches shall be as specified in the applicable specification sheet and figure 2.

When required, enclosures shall conform to the requirements specified in the applicable specification sheet.

Variations such as connectors, different circuitry and wiring configurations shall be indicated by the designations "S" and a number modifier (see 3.1).

intended Use:

Switch assemblies are intended for use as components of switchboards. Typical applications are command and control switchboards, fire control switchboards, battle telephone switchboards, action... View More
