scope:
This specification relates to a dyed, spirit based, 'LF Quality' marking ink suitable for application by pencil brush or by means of rubber or gelatine type to the external surfaces of unpainted, painted or varnished ammunition stores or components.
The ink must not be used in situations where it may penetrate to and remain in contact with explosives or propellants, without specific approval from the Director, Explosives Research and Development Establishment, Waltham Abbey.
The ink may be ordered in colours selected from those listed for dyestuffs in DEF-1430, the main requirements will be for black.
The designation 'LF Quality' refers to the restriction of the lead content of the material and its containers in order to permit their use in an explosives or other environment where such restriction is necessary. This does not imply that this material is suitable for use in permanent contact with explosives and Design Authorities should therefor seek advice on such applications from the Director, Explosives Research and Development Establishment, Waltham Abbey.
