Organization: NPFC
Publication Date: 27 October 1988
Status: inactive
Page Count: 22
scope:

This specification establishes the performance, test, manufacture, and acceptance requirements for shipboard solid-state proximity switches. The switches use an inductive sensor for noncontact position sensing of metallic objects. The switches transfer power between a power source and its loads when the switch is actuated.

Solid-state proximity switches shall be classified using the following classifications as specified (see 6.2.1):

Class I (XX) - Type of input voltage. Class II (Y.Y) - Maximum sensing distance. Class III (ZZZZ) - Output states.

Switches shall be designated according to type of impact voltage (alternating current (ac) or direct current (dc)); maximum sensing distance in inches; and output states (NO for normally open, NC for normally closed, and NONC for both normally opened and normally closed), as follows (see 6.2.1):

Ac - 0.5 - NO Ac - 1.5 - NO Ac - 0.5 - NC Ac - 1.5 - NC Dc - 0.5 - NONC Dc - 1.5 - NONC

intended Use:

The proximity switches are for use in position sensing applications.
