INTRODUCTION
As a consequence of the decisions taken by TC 64 the following terminology has been adopted in this third edition.
The term SELV has been introduced instead of the former name "Safety extra-low voltage". The full name of this term is not used in order to avoid, in accordance with the direction of the Guide 104, the word "safety" in this combination (the alternative proposal to use the word "separated" instead did not find sufficient support).
he new term PELV has been chosen for the earthed variety of SELV (formerly included in "Functional extra-low voltage" as 411.3.2.1). Here again no full name is given but P may be understood to stand for "Protective".
By analogy with the foregoing notations "Functional extra-low voltage" has been abbreviated as FELV.
