This International Standard is based on IMO Resolution A.694 (17) and specifies the requirements and type testing which can be applied, for those aspects which are common to all such equipment, to:
a) shipborne radio equipment forming part of the global maritime distress and safety system and
b) electronic navigational aids
required to be carried on board ships, by Regulation 12 of Chapter V of the international Conven
The requirements of this standard are not intended to prevent the use of new techniques, provided
Minimum performanace standards and methods of testing and required test results are established for hose general requirements which can be applied to all equipment described above.
Where a requirement in an equipment standard is different from this standard, the requirement in the equipment standard shall take precedence.
