This Standard provides guidance on the use of the following types of commercially available captive fasteners recommended for the closure of reusable containers for transit and storage of materiel for the Services:
(i) Captive screw
(ii) Strap bolt
(iii) Toggle catch
(iv) Quarter turn
NOTE There are many similar types and designs of commercial fasteners in use for specific application, those listed in this specification are not exhausted.
It contains no information on the positioning or the securing of the fasteners except for the recommendations shown in Table A. The precise location shall be stated in the respective container construction specification, or as stated on the Services Packaging Instruction Sheet.
Designers shall position and attach all fasteners such that no damage or distortion will occur to the container or fittings when being transported or stored.
It is pointed out that when fasteners are specified for containers, which differ in construction fiom the those described in this Defence Standard (including materials), designers must ensure that the container complete with the respective fasteners has been tested as fit for the purpose intended.
