This Part of the Standard describes the construction, identification and minimum testing requirements of fiber optic cables suitable for communications and data transfer applications within the enclosure of electronic or other equipment. They are suitable for sub-unit interconnection or as pigtails for active or passive optical components.
These fiber optic cables, are also suitable for use as sub-elements of single or multi fiber ships cables.
The sheathing of the fibers in this specification present a limited fire hazard and produce limited levels of toxic fumes, smoke and corrosive products when assessed by the methods of tests in this specification.
These cables shall be suitable for continuous use within a temperature range of -30°C to +85°C.
The cables shall be suitable for use in flexing and fixed applications and shall have an installed bending radius less than 100 mm.
Reference should be made to Def Stan 60-1 (Part 0) for the test methods preferred by the Ministry of Defence.
