1.2 SCOPE
The objectives of this study are to i) evaluate the existing literature on fatigue of welded joints applicable to offshore structures, and ii) compare the relevant theoretical models for fatigue life prediction, which account for the weld profile and thickness effects, with the experimental data obtained from constant amplitude loading in air. The study consists of the following tasks:
i) Identification of relevant references
ii) Assessment of theoretical models
iii) Critical review of experimental data with emphasis on plate size and weld profile effects on fatigue strength
iv) Integration of relevant information from 1987 Delft (SIMS '87) Conference
v) Comparison of theoretical and experimental studies
Each of the above tasks are described in a separate chapter followed by conclusions and recommendations.
