Of the many possible applications of lighting in the city, this document only deals with those having a purely aesthetic and decorative purpose. This lighting may be used every night, or used only occasionally for a festival or public gathering. For the latter, the equipment requires to be installed only for the duration of the festivities.

This document does not cover lighting for trafic or pedestrian movement, nor for the security of property, which are covered by the CIE Publications 12.2,23, 32/AB, 33/AB, 47,61, 68,88 and 92.
