INTRODUCTION

Background

Enhanced Subscriber Authentication (ESA) uses 3GPP Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA) procedures for mutual authentication of the MS and the network in the serving system. The successful execution of AKA results in the establishment of a security association (i.e., a set of security data) between the MS and the serving system. This enables a set of security services to be provided (e.g., data integrity of a signaling message, signaling information element encryption, user data encryption).
