scope:
This specification covers the procedure requirements for shot peening of metal parts to induce a residual compressive stress on the specified surfaces to a predetermined depth for the purpose of increasing fatigue life and resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
This standard covers the practical consideration and procedures involved in setting up and controlling shot peening operations. It includes requirements for the equipment's involved (test strips, holding block and gage), recommendations for their use, and standing for designing desired conditions for their use, and standards for designing desired conditions and/or results.
NOTE: Dimensions are in metric.
