This Standard applies to motorcycles designed for use on or off the road. It defines a procedure for measuring the A-weighted sound level emitted by the motorcycle exhaust while the motorcycle is stationary and describes how that procedure is to be used.

Clauses 3 to 5 define the measurement procedure for a single motorcycle and Clause 6 describes how that procedure may be used to determine the reference exhaust sound level for a class of motorcycle.

The procedure defined in Clauses 3 to 5 may also be used as a basis for specifying a permissible exhaust sound level for a motorcycle in service.
