scope:
This specification covers silver-zinc alkaline storage batteries used in the Deep Submergence Resoue Vehicle (DSRV).
This appendix establishes the material and procedures for potting and encapsulating with polyurethane compound (type II) conforming to MIL-M-24041 for use on metal surfaces and neoprene rubber surfaces. This procedure does not apply to materials other than those specified above.
This appendix covers the instructions which apply to the preparation of a service manual for the silver-zinc type of battery used in Navy submersibles. The manual is provided by the battery manufacturer to describe the required procedures for installation and operation of the specific battery design identified in the manual.
The instructions for the preparation of a battery service manual have several objectives as follows:
(a) Prevent the omission of necessary information by identifying the general subjects to be covered.
(b) Improve the usefulness of the manual by establishing a basic plan for the presentation of the manufacturer's instructions in a fixed sequence under specified general subjects.
(c) Prevent the use of an obsolete issue of a service manual by establishing a method of identifying the issue and date of each manual in a manner easily recognized by the users. Requirement for the preparation of a new service manual (with a new identification number supplied by the Navy) for each new battery contract is also intended to aid identification of the appropriate service manual for each battery design.
intended Use:
Batteries covered by this specification are intended for use in the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV).
