Foreword

It is my responsibility as Chairman of AC/301 to promote standardization in certain fields of materiel in common use by the nations of the NATO Alliance. The benefits of standardization include more economical manufacture of equipment, improved product quality and reliability and reduced cost of maintenance and spare parts. The aim of this brochure is to explain the part played by the NATO Group AC/301 in the standardization of common-user assemblies, components, spare parts and materials (ACSM) for use within the Alliance. I hope it will increase your perception of the importance of this work and promote support for its development.
