scope:

This specification covers forged aluminum alloy armor, die forgings from ¾ inch up to and including 3 inches in thickness for type I, class A forgings, and from ¾ inch up to and including 4 inches for type I, class B forgings. Type II forging thicknesses shall be as specified (see 6.2).

Forgings furnished under this specification shall be of one of the following types and classes.

Type I - Weldable forgings Class A - Non-heat treatable Alloy 5083 Alloy 5456 Class B - Heat treatable Alloy 7039 Al-Zn-Mg Type II - Non-weldable forgings

The forgings specified herein are for military vehicles.
