Page Count: 370
scope:

Realizing the need for more experimental testing of concrete structures, Committee 444, Experimental Analysis of Concrete Structures, took the initiative to sponsor two technical sessions on "Large-Scale Structural Testing." This is part of the mission of Committee 444 to promote and facilitate application of experimental analysis for the evaluation and design of concrete structures. The two Technical Sessions were held at the ACI Spring Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in March-April 2003. This volume includes papers presented at the two technical sessions. Additional papers, which were not presented, are also published herein. All papers were peer reviewed, per ACI requirements, by experts within and outside the committee. These original reviewed and revised papers constitute this ACI Special Publication.

The two technical sessions were noted for their international flavor and the variety of topics presented. The topics included the following füll-scale tests: fatigue testing of two pre-cracked AASHTO bridge girders, pseudo-dynamic and forced vibration tests of a two-story reinforced high-performance concrete building, lateral load tests of unbonded post-tensioned precast concrete walls, testing of Wacker drive viaduct, seismic jacketing of RC columns for enhanced axial load carrying performance, load tests of Canada Place pier, seismic performance of outrigger beam-wall connections, testing continuous reinforced concrete flat slabs, testing of seal slabípile interface bond, experimental and analytical studies of RC framed shear walls, shear tests on beams cut from ASR affected bridge decks, flexural and shear strengthening of RC beams using carbon fiber-reinforced polymer laminates, and masonry infíll structures. These papers should be of interest to practicing engineers, educators, and researchers in that they demonstrate the effective use of various facilities for concrete structures.
