scope:
This specification relates to five grades of lacquer which may be used on components in contact with explosives.
This specification replaces DEF 1427 Lacquer Cellulose Nitrate and supersedes TS 454B Cellulose Nitrate Sealing Varnish for small arms ammunition.
The lacquer is normally available either clear or red.
The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is of a quality suitable for application where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, its compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Director, Propellants, Explosives and Rocket Motor Establishment, Waltham Abbey.
