This specification covers carbon-silicon steel plates in two high tensile strength ranges, designated as grades A and B, of flange and firebox qualities; for use in locomotive boiler shells, boilers for stationary service, and other pressure vessels. The maximum thickness of flange quality plates to be specified under this specification shall be 2 in. ; and for firebox quality, 8 in. This material is intended for fusion welding. Welding technique is of fundamentals importance and, it is presupposed that welding procedure will be in accordance with approved methods.
