The scope of the B749 Installation Code Handbook is limited to Parts 1 through 7, inclusive, of the CAN/CGA-B149.7-M95 Natural Gas Installation Code, and the CAN/CGA-B 749.2-M95 Propane Installation Code. These parts represent the requirements governing most typical appliance installations encountered by natural gas and propane contractors.

Due to the physical nature of these fuels, and their practical usage, the scope for the CAN/CGA-B149.1-M95 Natural Gas Installation Code is different than the scope for the CAN/CGA-B149.2-M95 Propane Installation Code. These distinct scopes and requirements should not be confused in practice.

However, for installers, the majority of the requirements in Parts 1 through 7, except for pressure controls and pipe sizing, are common. Recognizing these fuel-specific differences, the applicable Part 1 requirements have been replaced with a commentary which outlines the scope of this handbook as it applies to natural gas and propane appliance installations in simple and practical terms.
