The scope of this document shall be to standardize those dimensions, packaging conventions, and descriptions of unrecorded magnetic tape considered to be essential for the successful interchange of tape between equipments in general use for sound recording applications.
This standard was prepared in order to promote the interchangeability of magnetic tape and to provide basic standard dimensions for the tape itself as an aid to the future development of equipments upon which it is to be used.
