Purpose. The DLP's purpose is to respond to airborne National Airspace System (NAS) users requests for weather products using the Mode Select Beacon System (Mode S) with data link. To perform this function the DLP must decode incoming requests, collect the requested data, assemble the uplink message and route this message to the appropriate Mode S sensor for transmission. In order to support the data link function the DLP will maintain a data base of the selected weather products required to respond to data link user's requests.
