Purpose.

This specification covers the requirements for three types of nitrogen tetroxide (N2O4) propellants with separate requirements for procurement and use.

Classification.

Nitrogen tetroxide propellants shall be of the following designated compositions as specified (6.2).

Compositions as Procured.

NTO - Nominal 99.5% N2O4 purity with Red-Brown color.

MON-1 - Nominal 99% N2O4 and 1% NO with Green color.

MON-3 - Nominal 97% N2O4 and 3% NO with Green color.

Compositions for Use.

Requirements set forth above modified within specified limits to account for normal changes in product quality during storage and transfer.

intended Use:

The propellant described by this specification is intended for use as an oxidizer in rocket engines.
