Scope and application

Part 1 of this Standard identifies all the elements of a Safety Management System to ensure safety requirements are met for all stages of a gas distribution network system's life cycle.

NOTE - The Gas Act, Gas Regulations and the Health and Safety in Employment Act require gas network systems to be designed, constructed, operated and maintained in a safe manner.

Part 2 of this Standard provides a means of compliance with the safety obligations for the design and construction (including testing and commissioning) aspects of the life cycle of new gas distribution network systems and extensions and upgrades of existing gas distribution networks.

Part 3 provides a means of compliance with the safety obligations for the operation and maintenance (including repair, uprating, decommissioning and corrosion control) aspects of the life cycle for gas distribution network systems that comply with Part 2. Refer to Appendix B Safe Life-Cycle of Gas Distribution Network.
