This European standard specifies a minimum limited subset (MES) of ISO/IEC 10646-1 for use in Europe and also an extended selected subset (EES) shown in annex E. The MES is a limited subset that includes the characters used by languages listed in Annex B. It covers the repertoires of all options of EN 1923 and ENV 41503:1990, ENV 41505:1991 and ENV 41508:1990. It also covers the repertoires of commonly used registered coded character sets and commonly used vendor coded character sets, examples of which are in Annex C.
