2.0 SCOPE

The weld specification pertains to fillet welds in tee or lap joints and flare-vee groove welds. The latter are sometimes referred to as radius welds. This specification covers coated electrode and gas shielded metal arc processes which are to be used interchangeably unless otherwise specified. (Normally, coated electrodes are used in welds such as brackets which are less than 30 cm (12 in) in length; gasshielded semi-automatic processes are used for all other welds.) Sketches shown for tee weld will also apply for lap weld. 2.1 The location or joints to be welded shall be designated on the engineering drawing using the appropriate symbols and notes to indicate type, length and location as required. The size of the weld need not be designated unless the standards established by this specification are inadequate.
