INTRODUCTION

THIS STANDARD IMPLEMENTS A SYSTEM FOR ALUMINUM, MAGNESIUM AND ZINC (LIGHT METAL ALLOY) PART IDENTIFICATION THAT:

Designates the material from which the part is fabricated.

Designates the ISO nominal composition of the casting.

Allows segregation of aluminum, magnesium and zinc castings for recycling to maximize the components residual value at end of life.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of each design team to determine if these markings are required to allow vehicle sales in the applicable country.
